Model-based grades, not lab tests. We flunk more than we pass. How grading works

Is USA Pan's Americoat Coating PFAS-Free?

USA Pan says its Americoat coating is silicone-based and "PTFE, PFOA, PFOS, PFAS and BPA free" (usapan.com/faq-use-and-care). That is the company's own statement. We found no third-party certification for it, and on that record USA Pan's bakeware grades 70 out of 100 in our data, the same ceiling every named coating with an unverified brand claim hits, regardless of brand.

What USA Pan says, and what it covers

Americoat is a silicone nonstick coating over aluminized steel, used across USA Pan's bakeware, including its sheet pans and bakeware sets. USA Pan's statement names PTFE, PFOA, PFOS and PFAS specifically, which is broader than a narrower "PFOA-free" claim some brands make.

Why USA Pan grades 70

Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from public disclosures, not a lab test we commissioned. A pan starts from the bakeware baseline of 30. A named silicone coating adds 10, because it is still a coating, and USA Pan's PFAS-free statement takes 10 off, the same formula that applies to any brand making a similar unverified claim. That leaves 70 across USA Pan's graded bakeware.

If you want more certainty

An uncoated pan avoids the coating question entirely. Compare stainless steel and silicone-coated options in our bakeware finder.

FAQ

Is USA Pan's Americoat independently certified PFAS-free?

Not that we could find. USA Pan's statement is its own, which is why it earns a claim credit rather than the larger credit a third-party certification would add.

Is silicone coating the same as PTFE?

No. Silicone is chemically distinct from PTFE and other fluoropolymers, though our model still treats any coating, named or not, as a factor since the coating itself is what a brand's PFAS statement is describing.

Does a 70 grade mean USA Pan bakeware is unsafe?

No. It reflects a named coating plus an unverified brand statement, not a lab-confirmed result either way.
