Water filters certified to reduce PFAS
NSF runs a public register of drinking water treatment units and grants separate certifications for reducing PFOA, PFOS and total PFAS. As of 2026-09-29 it lists 49 models certified for total PFAS reduction and 63 certified for PFOA and PFOS. That is the whole list. Every row below is reproduced from NSF’s register, not graded by us.
Certification is not a safety verdict. It means a specific model was tested against a specific claim under NSF/ANSI 53, and that the claim held. It says nothing about contaminants the model was never tested for.
Certified for total PFAS reduction
The strongest claim in the register, and the shortest list. 6 companies hold it.

Certified for PFOA and PFOS, but not total PFAS
PFOA and PFOS are two compounds out of thousands. A filter certified for them has not been certified for the rest, which is the difference between this list and the one above.

Certified by IAPMO or WQA rather than NSF
NSF is one certifier of several, and some of the best known filters hold their PFAS certification elsewhere, which is why they are missing from the register above. 34 models across 8 brands, each taken from the brand’s own performance data sheet or the certifier’s listing.

Lab tested, but not certified
These brands publish laboratory results for PFAS reduction without holding a certification for it. A lab result is a real measurement of the units tested. A certification adds an outside body auditing the testing and the manufacturing behind it, which is the difference between this table and the ones above.

What this list does not tell you
A filter missing from here may still be certified. NSF is one certifier among several, and the tables above cover what we could verify from IAPMO and WQA through brands’ own performance data sheets. Those registers are not machine readable, so this is not the complete cross-certifier list and cannot be. Absence from this page is not evidence that a filter fails.
Reverse osmosis has no NSF PFAS certification to hold. Reverse osmosis is routinely recommended for PFAS, but NSF/ANSI 58, the reverse osmosis standard, offers 51 reduction claims and not one of them is PFOA, PFOS or total PFAS. An RO system can only carry a PFAS certification through NSF/ANSI 53 or another certifier.
Certification is per model, not per brand. The register lists exact model numbers because a brand can sell several filters where only some were tested. A model number that looks similar is not the model that was certified.
A certified filter still has to be maintained. Every listing carries a service cycle in gallons. Past that point the claim NSF tested no longer describes the filter in your kitchen.
Does the filter itself contain PFAS?
That is a different question from whether it removes PFAS, and it is the one the rest of this site answers. We grade water filters for the PFAS risk of the product itself, from materials, brand disclosures and certifications.
