Put the tap water lookup on your own site

A reader types their ZIP code and sees what the EPA actually measured in their own water supply. 10,313 public water systems, 1,711 of them above the federal limit for PFOA or PFOS, 20,755 ZIP codes covered.

How do I add it?

Paste these two lines where you want it to appear. There is nothing else to do.

<script src="https://pfasauthority.com/embed/water" async></script>
<div id="pfas-water-lookup"></div>

What does it cost, and what is the catch?

Nothing, and there is no catch worth hiding. It is a script rather than an iframe, so it inherits your own typography and survives a strict content security policy. It sets no cookies and tracks none of your readers. Each result carries one line of credit back to us, which is the whole arrangement.

Can I build my own instead?

Yes. The same data is a CORS-open JSON endpoint, /api/public/water?zip=07450, which returns every system serving that ZIP with the compounds found, the highest reading in parts per trillion and whether it is above the federal limit. The whole graded product catalogue is at /api/public/grades, and every public endpoint is listed at /api/public.

Where does the data come from?

The EPA’s fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule, which required almost every public water system in the country to test for 29 PFAS compounds and published every result. Final dataset, edition 2026-10-15. Original data → Two things worth repeating in any story built on it: lithium is in the same survey and is not a PFAS, and compliance is judged on an annual average, so a single high sample is not by itself a violation.
