Model-based grades, not lab tests. We flunk more than we pass. How grading works

Does All-Clad Nonstick Cookware Contain PFAS?

Yes, by All-Clad's own account. All-Clad states directly that its nonstick coating contains PTFE, a fluoropolymer in the PFAS family (all-clad.ca/en/aboutnonstick). That is a rare case of a cookware brand naming the chemistry rather than staying silent, and it is why every All-Clad nonstick pan in our data grades 5 out of 100, our lowest tier.

What All-Clad says, and what it covers

All-Clad's disclosure applies to its nonstick lines, including the HA1 Expert, NS Pro and Essentials ranges. Its stainless steel cookware, which has no nonstick coating at all, is a separate product line and is not covered by the PTFE statement because there is no coating to disclose.

Why All-Clad's nonstick pans grade 5

Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from public disclosures, not a lab test we commissioned. A pan that names PTFE directly starts from the cookware baseline of 30 and takes the full penalty for a confirmed fluoropolymer coating, which lands it at 5. That applies across All-Clad's nonstick fry pans, saucepans, roasters, griddles and bakeware, all recorded the same way, PTFE nonstick coating, as disclosed by All-Clad.

All-Clad's stainless steel cookware, which carries no coating, grades 75 in our data. A handful of All-Clad products with an unnamed nonstick coating, like its waffle makers, grade 15, better than the confirmed-PTFE line only because the chemistry isn't stated, not because it's necessarily different.

If you want to avoid PTFE

All-Clad's own stainless steel line is the straightforward choice from the same brand. Compare it against ceramic-coated alternatives, which grade higher but are still a coating, in our cookware finder. Our methodology page explains how we grade the rest.

FAQ

Does All-Clad disclose PTFE for all of its nonstick pans?

In our data, every All-Clad nonstick product with a named coating discloses PTFE. A few products with an unnamed nonstick coating are recorded differently because the listing doesn't say what the coating is, not because All-Clad has said it's PTFE-free.

Is All-Clad stainless steel cookware different?

Yes. All-Clad's stainless steel line has no nonstick coating and grades 75 in our data, the same tier as other uncoated stainless cookware.

Does PTFE mean the cookware is dangerous to use?

A grade of 5 reflects a confirmed fluoropolymer coating, not a finding about how the pan performs in normal use. Research on PFAS exposure and health effects generally shows association in population studies, not proof of harm from a specific pan.
