How Do You Get Rid of Black Mold in the Shower?

Ventilate and clean more often. The EPA says places that are often or always damp can be hard to keep completely free of mold, and that if mold in the shower or elsewhere in the bathroom seems to reappear, increasing ventilation by running a fan or opening a window and cleaning more frequently will usually prevent it from recurring, or at least keep it to a minimum. It advises running the bathroom fan or opening the window when showering, and using air conditioners or dehumidifiers when needed.

The EPA says to scrub mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water and dry them completely, and not to paint or caulk moldy surfaces, but to clean up the mold and dry the surfaces first, because paint applied over moldy surfaces is likely to peel.

The agencies differ in emphasis on bleach. The CDC says mold can be removed from hard surfaces with household products, soap and water, or a bleach solution of no more than 1 cup of household laundry bleach in 1 gallon of water, and warns never to mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners because this will produce a poisonous gas. The EPA says using a biocide such as chlorine bleach to kill mold is not recommended as a routine practice during mold cleanup, and that dead mold may still cause allergic reactions in some people, so it is not enough to kill mold, it must also be removed.
