WP-570 Waterproof Case
Lower concern. Rigid sealed case unlikely to contain intentional PFAS.
DiCAPac WP-570 is a sealed waterproof phone case made from rigid plastic. No PFAS disclosure available; waterproofing comes from seals and material integrity, not applied coatings.

What WP-570 Waterproof Case is made of, ingredients and materials
The WP-570 uses polycarbonate or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) plastic as its housing material. Polycarbonate is a rigid, impact-resistant polymer; TPU is a flexible elastomer. Both are inert when molded and sealed, meaning they do not leach into contents during normal use. The sealed closure design, the critical feature, isolates the plastic housing from direct contact with food, skin, or water that would enter the case, reducing any migration risk to near zero.
What’s concerning
Category baseline
The starting point for this type of product, before anything specific to this product is counted.
No PFAS disclosure
No public statement from the brand about PFAS in this product.
Polycarbonate UV degradation and microcracking
Over several years of outdoor use or sunlight exposure, polycarbonate can become brittle and develop fine cracks, though this does not release hazardous compounds into the case contents. It affects case longevity and seal integrity, not chemical safety.
TPU hydrolysis and seal failure
If the housing or gasket is TPU, prolonged exposure to moisture and heat can cause gradual breakdown (hydrolysis) of the polyurethane, weakening the seal. This compromises waterproofing but does not emit toxic substances into the case.
What’s reassuring
Base material not linked to PFAS
The main material recorded for this product is not one associated with PFAS.
Gasket/seal material leachables
The gasket is typically silicone or rubber. No recalls or documented leaching incidents are on record for DiCAPac cases. Silicone gaskets are chemically stable under normal use conditions.
BPA & bisphenols
While polycarbonate production uses bisphenol A, the polymer is fully crosslinked and inert once molded. No leaching into contents has been documented for sealed polycarbonate cases used as protective housings rather than food contact items.
Source, FDA ↗Volatile off-gassing from new plastic
New polycarbonate and TPU cases may emit trace odors during initial use, but these are minor residual solvents from manufacturing, not hazardous. Airing the case for a few hours before first use eliminates detectable odor.
How is this PFAS grade calculated?
The brand's record and disclosure
DiCAPac is a specialist manufacturer of waterproof cases and pouches with no publicly documented recalls, safety controversies, or compliance failures on record. The brand provides no detailed material safety disclosures or third-party certifications (such as SGS, BPA-free labeling, or ISO compliance statements) in publicly available materials, which is typical for utility hardware brands. This silence does not indicate a problem but reflects the minimal regulatory scrutiny applied to sealed protective cases.
How it compares in its category
Waterproof cases are typically made from polycarbonate, TPU, or silicone. The WP-570's rigid polycarbonate/TPU housing is standard and poses lower chemical migration risk than soft silicone pouches, which can off-gas volatile compounds in warm conditions. Hard cases dominate the market for phones and cameras precisely because sealed rigid plastics avoid contact leaching altogether. DiCAPac's offering is materially typical for this category.
If you buy it
Store the case in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight to prevent polymer UV degradation over many years. Do not expose it to extreme heat (above 60°C) for extended periods, as polycarbonate can soften slightly. Inspect the seal gasket regularly for cracks or hardening; replace the case if the seal fails, as waterproofing is its core function. Clean the interior and exterior with mild soap and water; avoid harsh solvents that can stress-crack polycarbonate.
