PFAS in Roasting Pans, Where Every Pan We Graded Is Coated

We graded 15 roasting pans, and every one has a non-stick coating on record. Seven are recorded as PTFE, most of them from All-Clad and T-fal lines those brands say contain PTFE, and five do not say what the coating is. The three that grade best are GreenPan ceramic roasters, at 70 out of 100 on GreenPan's statement about its coating.

That makes this a short guide with a clear message. Our data contains almost no uncoated roasting pans, and the non-stick ones mostly will not name their coating.

How we graded these

Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from publicly available product information and manufacturer disclosures, not a lab test performed by our team. A high score means lower concern based on reviewed sources, never PFAS-free and never safe. Across the 15 pans the spread is three at 70, five at 15 and seven at 5. The seven pans recorded as PTFE

Seven roasting pans are recorded with PTFE and grade 5, the bottom of our scale, and the five with an unnamed non-stick coating grade 15. All-Clad says its nonstick contains PTFE, and T-fal lists Easy Care, Simply Cook and Ultimate Hard Anodized among the ranges it says contain PTFE. Five of these pans moved from 15 to 5 on 17 September 2026, when we applied those disclosures. An earlier version of this guide had the PTFE pans at 20, five points above the unnamed ones, because their records had skipped the penalty for a brand saying nothing about PFAS. We corrected that on 16 September 2026. If avoiding fluoropolymers is your goal, a pan that names PTFE has answered the question.

GreenPan, three roasters at 70

The GreenPan Reserve roaster, the Premiere Roaster and the Roasting Bundle all grade 70. GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. We record that as unverified, and we found no third-party certification for it. The 70 is the cookware baseline of 30, plus 10 for a named ceramic coating, minus 10 for GreenPan's statement.

An earlier version of this guide had the Reserve roaster at 90 and the other two at 15 with only vague safety language on record. All three moved to 70 on 17 September 2026, when we applied GreenPan's statement across its ceramic range and began grading every ceramic non-stick as a coating.

What to avoid

• Roasting pans recorded as PTFE, especially for long, high-temperature roasts. Seven are here, from All-Clad and T-fal.
• Non-stick roasting pans whose coating type is not stated. That is most of this category.
• Assuming a brand PFAS statement means a pan is uncoated. The GreenPan roasters still have a coating, which is part of why they stop at 70.
• Scrubbing a coated roaster with abrasive pads after a long roast. Coating wear is the recorded concern.

Based on available materials and data, the best-graded roasting pan is the GreenPan Reserve Ceramic Nonstick Roasting Pan with Rack at 70 out of 100, tied with the GreenPan Premiere Roaster and Roasting Bundle, on a brand PFAS statement we record as unverified. Our roasting pan data does not include a bare stainless steel or enameled roaster, so if you want no coating at all, look for one described that way. Plain stainless steel pans in our data grade above most coated ones. These grades are estimates built from disclosed materials, not laboratory proof, and nothing here is being called PFAS-free or safe by us.

Do roasting pans contain PFAS?

Is a PTFE roasting pan better than an unnamed non-stick one?

No. The PTFE pans grade 5, below the unnamed non-stick pans at 15, because a named PTFE coating is a fluoropolymer by definition. An unnamed coating may or may not be.

Is a GreenPan roasting pan PFAS-free?

GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. The three GreenPan roasters we graded carry that statement and grade 70. We record brand claims as unverified, and we found no third-party certification for GreenPan.

What is the alternative to a non-stick roasting pan?

An uncoated stainless steel, enameled or cast iron roaster has no non-stick coating to wear or overheat. None is in our roasting pan data yet, but plain stainless steel and bare cast iron cookware grade above most coated pans across our database.
