What the evidence says about PFAS in butcher paper
PFAS were applied to paper and paperboard food packaging as grease-proofing agents, and the US FDA announced in February 2024 that those substances are no longer being sold by manufacturers for food contact use in the US. Washington State has prohibited wraps with intentionally added PFAS since February 2023, the earliest of its two food-packaging deadlines, and bags and sleeves since May 2024.
