Our data holds 114 parchment paper rolls and sheets, from Reynolds, Kirkland Signature, Amazon Basics, Great Value, Wilton, King Arthur Baking, PaperChef, Katbite, Regency, Member's Mark and If You Care among others. 109 of them grade 20 or 25 out of 100. The one brand that stands apart is If You Care, whose parchment grades 90.

Parchment is paper made to resist grease and release food, usually with a thin silicone coating. Silicone is not fluorinated. What keeps most parchment at 25 in our data is that the grease-resistant treatment is unverified and the maker says nothing about PFAS.

How we graded these

Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from publicly available product information and manufacturer disclosures, not a lab test performed by our team. A high score means lower concern based on reviewed sources, never PFAS-free and never safe. Across the 114 parchment products the spread is four at 90, 38 at 70, one at 50, 99 at 25 and 21 at 20. Why most parchment grades 25

Our model counts a grease-resistant treatment on paper as a concern unless it is verified, because grease-resistant papers are one of the routes by which fluorinated chemistry has historically reached food contact. The US Food and Drug Administration announced on 28 February 2024 that grease-proofing substances containing PFAS are no longer being sold by manufacturers for food contact use in the US. No major parchment brand we graded says what its treatment is instead, so the grade stays at 25.

That is not a finding that any of these papers contain PFAS. Most are recorded as silicone-coated, and silicone is not a fluorinated material.

Why non-stick parchment grades 20

Fourteen products sold as non-stick parchment, including Kirkland Signature, Great Value and Amazon Basics non-stick rolls, are recorded with a non-stick coating of unstated type, which our model scores slightly more heavily than a grease-resistant treatment. That is a difference in how the listing describes the coating, not evidence that the paper is different.

Why If You Care grades 90

If You Care describes its baking tools as unbleached, non-toxic and with no added PFAS, which our model credits and records as unverified. Mamavation reported in April 2021 that an EPA-certified lab found no total fluorine at or above 10 ppm in If You Care Parchment Baking Paper. The statement and the published lab result together put If You Care parchment at 90, the highest grade in this category.

A correction to this guide

An earlier version of this guide said no parchment we had reviewed earned a Good grade, grouped several store brands as the same stock sold under different names, and filed them under Glad. We had no source for either claim, and several of those listings are not Glad products. Our records had also attached a MADE SAFE certification to If You Care parchment that we could not find in MADE SAFE's directory. We corrected all of it on 16 September 2026.

What to avoid

• Parchment sold as extra non-stick with no coating named. That is where the grades of 20 sit.
• Assuming unbleached or natural parchment has addressed PFAS. Unbleached describes the paper color, not the treatment.
• Reading 25 as proof of PFAS. It reflects a treated paper with no statement or verification.

It is the only parchment in our data with both a brand PFAS statement and a published lab result with no fluorine detected. These grades are estimates built from disclosed materials and published results, not our own laboratory proof, and nothing here is being called PFAS-free or safe by us.

Is there PFAS in parchment paper?

Most parchment is silicone-coated paper, and silicone is not fluorinated. Grease-resistant papers have historically been one of the places PFAS was used, and the FDA announced in February 2024 that PFAS grease-proofing agents are no longer being sold for food contact use in the US. Most parchment brands say nothing about their treatment, which is why they grade 25 in our data.

Which parchment paper is PFAS-free?

We do not call any product PFAS-free ourselves. If You Care states its baking tools have no added PFAS, and a 2021 lab test reported by Mamavation found no fluorine in its parchment, which is why it grades 90.

Is Reynolds parchment paper safe from PFAS?

Reynolds has no PFAS statement on record for the parchment we graded. It is recorded as silicone-coated paper and grades 25, which reflects an unverified grease-resistant treatment, not a finding that it contains PFAS.

Is unbleached parchment better?

Not for PFAS in our data. Unbleached parchment from King Arthur, Member's Mark, Katbite and others grades 25, the same as bleached parchment, because unbleached describes the paper rather than its coating.
