Model-based grades, not lab tests. We flunk more than we pass. How grading works
What Brands Do Not Have PFAS?
No one can show that a brand has no PFAS in anything it sells, and we never call a product PFAS-free ourselves. What we can show, brand by brand, is who says their products are made without PFAS, who holds a certification that restricts PFAS, who has published lab results with no fluorine detected, and who says their products do contain PTFE.
We checked each brand below against its own website and the certifiers' directories between 16 and 17 September 2026. Brand statements are the brand's words, and we have not verified them.

How we graded these
Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from publicly available product information and manufacturer disclosures, not a lab test performed by our team. A high score means lower concern based on reviewed sources, never PFAS-free and never safe. In our model a certification that restricts PFAS is worth more than a brand's own statement, and a published lab result with no fluorine detected is worth the most. A coating still counts against a product even when the brand makes a statement about it. Look up any brand's products in our PFAS product finder.
Brands with a certification that restricts PFAS
- MADE SAFE, whose criteria restrict PFAS. Avocado mattresses and Natracare pads, tampons and liners carry it. We checked MADE SAFE's own catalog, which does not list cookware or bakeware brands.
- EWG Verified, which prohibits PFAS. Each & Every holds it for The Mini Edit deodorant set in our data.
- BPI Certified Compostable, which since 2020 requires less than 100 ppm total organic fluorine and no intentionally added fluorinated chemicals. Eco-Products, Vegware, Karat, Matter and Total Home have certified food packaging in our data.
Brands with published lab results
These products have independent test results, published by Mamavation, that found no organic fluorine or no total fluorine at the lab's detection limit. That is a marker test for PFAS, not a test for every PFAS compound.
- Primally Pure deodorant.
- Seventh Generation tampons.
- Modibodi and Aisle, formerly Lunapads, period underwear, both of which also make brand statements.
- If You Care parchment baking paper, which also carries a brand statement of no added PFAS.
Brands that say they make products without PFAS
- Cookware and bakeware. GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. Our Place says its ceramic non-stick coating is made without PFAS. Caraway says its ceramic coating is made without PTFE, PFOA and PFAS. HexClad says its TerraBond ceramic coating is PTFE-free and PFAS-free. Made In says its stainless clad and CeramiClad cookware is made without PFAS, PTFE and PFOA. Heritage Steel says its cookware is made without PFAS of any kind. USA Pan says its Americoat silicone coating is PTFE, PFOA, PFOS and PFAS free. Nordic Ware says all of its nonstick coatings are made without PFAS.
- Outdoor and clothing. Patagonia says 100% of its new products from Spring 2025 are made without intentionally added PFAS. Picture Organic Clothing says it has been PFC-free since 2017.
- Ski wax. Swix says it stopped selling PFAS-containing waxes to the mass market by the 2021 to 2022 season, and Purl, mountainFLOW, Star and Maplus label waxes as fluorine-free or non-fluoro.
- Personal care. bareMinerals says it no longer produces any products containing intentional PFAS ingredients, including PTFE. Oral-B says Glide floss is no longer formulated with PTFE. LOLA, Aunt Flow, Rael and Ruby Love make PFAS statements about their period products.
- Drinkware and packaging. Klean Kanteen describes its bottles as BPA, PFAS and lead-free. World Centric, Footprint and IDL Packaging make PFAS statements about specific food packaging lines.
Brands that say their products contain PTFE
Some brands disclose PTFE, under California's cookware disclosure law and similar state rules. All-Clad says its nonstick contains PTFE. T-fal lists more than 20 non-stick ranges it says contain intentionally added PFAS, and says its nonstick contains PTFE. Made In's disclosure says its Non Stick products contain PTFE, FEP and PFA. Le Creuset discloses PTFE, FEP and PFA in its Toughened Non-stick PRO line. Those products grade 5 in our data. The same brands' uncoated stainless, cast iron and ceramic lines grade far higher, so check the line, not just the logo.
Brands we could not confirm
Many brands are silent on PFAS, and silence is not a finding that a product contains PFAS. Our records had credited some brands with PFAS-free claims or certifications we could not find on their sites or in the certifiers' directories, including MADE SAFE certifications for Caraway, GreenPan, Tom's of Maine and Liforme and PFAS-free claims for water filter makers that only claim PFAS reduction. We removed those on 17 September 2026. HexClad is a case where the history matters, since a class action alleged that pans bought between February 2022 and March 2024 contained PTFE while marketed as PFAS free, and settled for $2.5 million.
A correction to this page
An earlier version of this page graded brands with letter grades and treated several unverified claims as certifications. On 16 and 17 September 2026 we checked every brand statement and certification against its source, removed the ones we could not confirm, and rewrote this page from the results.
Our pick
Based on available materials and data, the strongest evidence in our data is a certification that restricts PFAS or a published lab result, which is why Avocado, Natracare, Each & Every, Primally Pure and Seventh Generation tampons grade 100. For cookware, uncoated clad stainless steel from Heritage Steel or Made In grades 100 with a brand statement and no coating at all. These grades are estimates built from disclosed materials, not laboratory proof, and nothing here is being called PFAS-free or safe by us.
FAQ
Which cookware brands do not use PFAS?
GreenPan, Our Place, Caraway, HexClad, Heritage Steel, USA Pan and Nordic Ware say their products or coatings are made without PFAS, and Made In says so for its stainless and CeramiClad lines. We have not verified those statements. All-Clad, T-fal and Made In disclose PTFE in their non-stick lines. See our cookware guide.
Is a PFAS-free label proof?
No. It is the brand's statement. A certification that restricts PFAS, such as MADE SAFE, EWG Verified or BPI Certified Compostable, or a published lab result, is stronger evidence.
Does Patagonia use PFAS?
Patagonia says 100% of its new products from Spring 2025 are made without intentionally added PFAS. Older Patagonia products may have used fluorinated water-repellent finishes, so check the product's season.
Does GreenPan have PFAS?
GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. We found no third-party certification for it, and its ceramic pans grade 70 in our data on that statement.
