Gelish Mini Soak-Off Gel Nail Polish Red Roses
Skip until transparency improves, gel polishes are a blind spot for PFAS disclosure.
Gelish doesn't publicly disclose PFAS presence or absence in this gel polish. Gel nail products often contain complex resin systems and performance coatings, but the industry rarely tests or communicates PFAS risk. No third-party lab data or brand certification available.

Are Gelish Mini Soak-Off Gel Nail Polish Red non-toxic? What it is made of
Gelish Mini Soak-Off is a gel-resin blend cured under UV/LED light, containing oligomers, monomers, photoinitiators, and pigments (here, synthetic colorants for the red shade). Unlike conventional nail polish, gel formulas cure chemically rather than evaporate, trapping solvents and reactive compounds in the hardened layer on the nail. The 'soak-off' design requires acetone removal, which can degrade nail keratin over time. Gelish does not disclose specific monomer types or full ingredient lists publicly, limiting independent safety assessment.
What’s concerning
Category baseline
The starting point for this type of product, before anything specific to this product is counted.
No PFAS disclosure
No public statement from the brand about PFAS in this product.
Unknown / proprietary coating
A coating is recorded with no disclosed chemistry.
Acrylate monomers and photoinitiators (respiratory/skin sensitization)
Gel polishes typically contain methacrylates and benzophenone-type photoinitiators; neither is banned in cosmetics, but both are recognized respiratory irritants and potential contact sensitizers in uncured liquid form. Gelish does not specify which monomers are used, so cumulative sensitization risk cannot be quantified for this product.
Acetone-induced keratin damage (nail brittleness)
Repeated acetone soaks for gel removal are well-documented to cause nail thinning, peeling, and dryness. This is not unique to Gelish but is inherent to soak-off gel technology. Risk scales with frequency and inadequate post-removal care.
Uncured resin fume inhalation (VOC exposure)
PFAS
Gel polishes are a known blind spot for PFAS disclosure industry-wide. Fluorinated compounds are used in some gel formulations for water resistance and durability. Gelish's poor PFAS transparency score and silent stance on fluorine content means PFAS presence cannot be ruled out; see separate PFAS assessment (40/100 safety).

Lead
No recalls or test data specific to Gelish Mini red-shade polish are publicly available. Red nail polish shades can occasionally contain trace cadmium or lead in synthetic iron oxide or azo pigments, but regulatory limits exist in the EU and China; US FDA oversight of cosmetic pigments is less stringent. Gelish has not published metal-content testing for this product.

The brand's record and disclosure
Gelish (owned by Han Skin Care) is a major gel polish brand but does not voluntarily publish full safety data sheets or PFAS testing results. No major recalls specific to this product line are on record. The brand has not pursued third-party certifications (such as 5-Free or Clean at Ulta standards that some competitors advertise). Industry-wide, gel polish manufacturers remain opaque on fluorinated compounds and heavy metal content in pigments, making Gelish typical of its category in this regard.
How it compares in its category
Gelish is mid-tier in the gel polish market in terms of transparency; brands like Zoya and Ella+Mila publish 5-Free or cleaner claims, while professional salon-only gels (OPI, Shellac) also rarely disclose full lists. Gelish Mini products are marketed as beginner-friendly and shorter-wear, which theoretically reduces cumulative acetone exposure versus full manicures. However, the lack of disclosed PFAS or heavy-metal testing puts it at parity with most gel polishes rather than ahead.
If you buy it
Use in a well-ventilated space or outdoors to reduce inhalation of uncured fumes and acetone vapors during application and removal. Limit frequency to no more than every 2-3 weeks to allow nail recovery between soaks; chronic gel use has been linked to thinning and peeling. Remove with pure acetone (not nail-polish remover) and follow with cuticle oil and hand cream to mitigate barrier damage. Do not use if you have open cuts, fungal infections, or compromised nail beds.
