Model-based grades, not lab tests. We flunk more than we pass. How grading works
PFAS in Crepe Pans, From Enameled Cast Iron to Named PTFE
We graded 11 crepe and pancake pans. They run from 70 out of 100 down to 5. Three GreenPan ceramic crepe pans and crepe makers grade 70 on a brand statement about the coating. Two enameled cast iron crepe pans from Le Creuset grade 65 with no non-stick coating at all. Three pans with non-stick coatings nobody names grade 15, and two pans with PTFE grade 5.

How we graded these
Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from publicly available product information and manufacturer disclosures, not a lab test performed by our team. A high score means lower concern based on reviewed sources, never PFAS-free and never safe. Across the 11 pans the spread is three at 70, three at 65, three at 15 and two at 5. Skillets and griddles filed under this category are excluded. On 16 September 2026 we corrected three pans in this category whose records had skipped the penalty for a brand saying nothing about PFAS, which every other silent brand carries. Look up any pan in our PFAS product finder.
Le Creuset sits at both ends
Le Creuset's Traditional Round Crepe Pan is enameled cast iron and grades 65. Enamel is glass fused to metal, not a fluorinated coating, so there is no non-stick layer to name. Le Creuset's Toughened Nonstick PRO Crepe Pan grades 5. Le Creuset discloses under state law that its Toughened Non-stick PRO line contains PTFE, FEP and PFA, and the pan moved from 15 to 5 on 17 September 2026 when we recorded that disclosure. Same brand, same dish, and the coating is the whole difference.
GreenPan at 70
The GreenPan Valencia Pro and the Reserve Pro Crepe Frypan both grade 70. GreenPan names the coating, Thermolon, and says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. We have not verified that, and we found no third-party certification for it. The 70 is the cookware baseline of 30, plus 10 for the coating, minus 10 for GreenPan's statement. An earlier version of this guide had the Valencia Pro at 90 and the Reserve Pro at 40. Both moved to 70 on 17 September 2026, when we began grading every named ceramic non-stick with a brand statement the same way.
GreenPan's Advanced Crepe Maker, an electric appliance, also grades 70. GreenPan's non-stick is its Thermolon ceramic coating, and the crepe maker's record carries the same GreenPan statement. It graded 40 until 17 September 2026, when its coating was recorded the same way as the rest of GreenPan's range.
The two pans with PTFE
The Tefal G6 Unlimited Pancake Pan names PTFE and grades 5, the bottom of our scale. An earlier version of this guide had it at 20, five points above the unnamed coatings, because its record had skipped the penalty for a brand saying nothing about PFAS. With that corrected, the pan that tells you it is PTFE now sits below the ones that do not say. Le Creuset's Toughened Nonstick PRO Crepe Pan shares the 5, on Le Creuset's own disclosure.
What to avoid
- Crepe pans whose non-stick coating is not named, from Cuisinart and Calphalon.
- A pan with PTFE, from Tefal or Le Creuset's Toughened Non-stick PRO line, if avoiding fluoropolymers is your aim.
- Heating an empty non-stick crepe pan on high. Overheating a coated pan is what our Teflon flu explainer covers.
- Assuming the brand decides it. Le Creuset appears at 65 and at 5.

Our pick
Based on available materials and data, we would choose the Le Creuset Traditional Round Crepe Pan at 65 out of 100. It is enameled cast iron with no non-stick coating to wear. The GreenPan Valencia Pro grades slightly higher at 70 on GreenPan's statement about its ceramic coating, and is the lighter choice if you want non-stick release. These grades are estimates built from disclosed materials, not laboratory proof, and nothing here is being called PFAS-free or safe by us.
FAQ
Do crepe pans contain PFAS?
Two crepe pans in our data have PTFE, the Tefal G6 by its listing and Le Creuset's Toughened Nonstick PRO pan by Le Creuset's disclosure, and three more have non-stick coatings whose type is not stated. The better-graded pans are enameled cast iron, anodized aluminum with no coating recorded, or ceramic with a brand PFAS-free claim.
Is an enameled cast iron crepe pan PFAS-free?
Vitreous enamel is glass fused to cast iron, not a fluorinated material, and Le Creuset's enameled crepe pans grade 65 in our data. We still do not call any product PFAS-free ourselves.
Is Le Creuset non-stick PTFE?
For its Toughened Non-stick PRO line, yes by Le Creuset's own account. Le Creuset discloses under state law that the line contains PTFE, FEP and PFA. The Toughened Nonstick PRO Crepe Pan grades 5 for that reason, while Le Creuset's enameled crepe pans grade 65.
Why does the Tefal PTFE pan grade 5?
Because its record names PTFE, the heaviest coating factor our model has, and Tefal says nothing further about PFAS. It shares the lowest grade in this category with Le Creuset's Toughened Nonstick PRO Crepe Pan.
