PFAS in Griddle Pans, Nine of 15 Recorded as PTFE
We graded 15 griddle pans. Nine of them, from All-Clad and T-fal, are recorded with PTFE non-stick coatings and grade 5 out of 100, the bottom of our scale. Both brands say their non-stick contains PTFE. The best grades go to three GreenPan ceramic griddles at 70 and three Le Creuset enameled cast iron griddles at 65.

How we graded these
Every grade here is a model-based estimate built from publicly available product information and manufacturer disclosures, not a lab test performed by our team. A high score means lower concern based on reviewed sources, never PFAS-free and never safe. Across the 15 griddles the spread is three at 70, three at 65 and nine at 5. Look up any griddle in our PFAS product finder.
Nine griddles, and the brands that name PTFE
All-Clad says its nonstick contains PTFE, and lists its HA1, NS Pro and Essentials nonstick lines among its PTFE coated products. T-fal lists Easy Care and Essentials among the ranges it says contain intentionally added PFAS, and says its nonstick contains PTFE. Six All-Clad griddles and three T-fal griddles are recorded that way and grade 5.
A griddle is a large flat pan, often across two burners, and it is commonly preheated empty before food goes on. That is the use where a non-stick coating is under the most heat, which our Teflon flu explainer covers.
GreenPan ceramic griddles at 70
The Rio Advanced Ceramic Griddle, the Rio Double Griddle and the Advanced Electric Griddle all grade 70. GreenPan's non-stick is its Thermolon ceramic coating, and GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA, which we record as unverified. The 70 is the cookware baseline of 30, plus 10 for the named coating, minus 10 for the statement.
Le Creuset enameled cast iron
All three Le Creuset griddles are enameled cast iron and grade 65. Vitreous enamel is glass fused to metal, not a non-stick coating and not a fluorinated material. Because it is an applied layer, our model gives it a smaller material credit than bare cast iron, and all three carry the penalty for Le Creuset saying nothing about PFAS on these listings.
Corrections to this guide
An earlier version of this guide said four griddles named PTFE and five more left the coating unnamed at 15. On 17 September 2026 we applied the PTFE disclosures All-Clad and T-fal publish for their non-stick lines, which moved those five griddles from 15 to 5. The same day the Le Creuset Cast Iron Square Griddle moved from 75 to 65, because it alone had been given the bare metal credit that no other enameled cast iron in our data carries. GreenPan's Rio griddles, at 90 and 15 before that, moved to 70 when we applied GreenPan's statement across its range and began grading every ceramic non-stick as a coating. The Rio Double and Advanced Electric griddles briefly showed 40 on 17 September 2026, before their GreenPan coating was recorded the same way as the rest of GreenPan's range.
What to avoid
- Griddles from lines the maker discloses as PTFE, if avoiding fluoropolymers is your aim. That is nine of 15 here, from All-Clad and T-fal.
- Preheating an empty coated griddle on high across two burners.
- Reading ceramic or non-stick on any label as a PFAS statement. It is the brand's statement, and the named coating, that moved GreenPan to 70.

Our pick
Based on available materials and data, we would choose the Le Creuset Cast Iron Square Griddle at 65 out of 100 if you want no non-stick coating at all. Enamel is not a fluorinated material and there is nothing to overheat. The GreenPan Rio Advanced Ceramic Griddle grades higher at 70, like GreenPan's other two griddles, on GreenPan's statement about its ceramic coating, and is the lighter choice if you want non-stick release. These grades are estimates built from disclosed materials, not laboratory proof, and nothing here is being called PFAS-free or safe by us.
FAQ
Do griddle pans contain PFAS?
Nine of the 15 griddle pans we graded come from All-Clad and T-fal non-stick lines that those brands say contain PTFE, a fluoropolymer in the PFAS family. The griddles that grade better are enameled cast iron or a GreenPan ceramic griddle with a brand PFAS statement.
Is All-Clad non-stick PTFE?
All-Clad says its nonstick contains PTFE, and lists its HA1, NS Pro and Essentials nonstick lines among its PTFE coated products. All six All-Clad griddles in our data are recorded that way and grade 5.
Is an enameled cast iron griddle PFAS-free?
Vitreous enamel is glass fused to cast iron and is not a fluorinated material. Le Creuset's three enameled griddles grade 65 in our data. We do not call any product PFAS-free ourselves.
Is GreenPan PFAS-free?
GreenPan says its Thermolon coated food contact surface is free of PFAS, including PTFE and PFOA. We record that as unverified, and we found no third-party certification for it. All three GreenPan griddles in our data grade 70.
