Always Pan, Is It Non-Toxic?
Lower concern. Ceramic coating reduces PFAS risk vs traditional nonstick.
Always Pan uses ceramic nonstick coating and states PFAS-free manufacturing. No independent testing available, but ceramic is a lower-concern nonstick alternative to Teflon-type coating.

Is Always Pan non-toxic? What it is made of
The Always Pan uses a stainless steel body with a ceramic nonstick coating. Ceramic coatings are inorganic mineral-based surfaces that bond mechanically to the substrate and do not require Teflon-family coating (Teflon-type coating) or PFAS to achieve nonstick performance. Stainless steel itself is highly resistant to corrosion and does not leach significant quantities of metals under normal cooking conditions, making it a durable and chemically stable cookware material. The ceramic layer adds thermal responsiveness and reduces direct contact between food and metal.
What’s concerning
Category baseline
The starting point for this type of product, before anything specific to this product is counted.
Ceramic coating degradation over time
Ceramic nonstick coatings are durable but not permanent. Dishwasher use, metal utensils, or thermal cycling can cause gradual thinning or localized chipping. No specific failure pattern has been documented for the Always Pan, but this is inherent to the coating class.
What’s reassuring
Base material not linked to PFAS
The main material recorded for this product is not one associated with PFAS.
Brand-stated PFAS-free
The brand states this product is PFAS-free. We have not verified the claim.
Lead
No test results or regulatory findings on record indicate lead or cadmium contamination in the Always Pan's ceramic coating. Our Place has not disclosed specific glaze composition, but absence of reported contamination is consistent with reputable ceramic cookware manufacturing.
Source, ATSDR ↗Aluminum leaching from substrate
The Always Pan uses stainless steel, not aluminum, so this hazard does not apply to the primary cooking surface or body.
Teflon-type coating fume risk
Ceramic coating does not contain Teflon-type coating or Teflon-family coating; thermal decomposition fumes are not a concern at normal or even moderately elevated cooking temperatures.
How is this PFAS grade calculated?
The brand's record and disclosure
Our Place has made explicit PFAS-free claims for the Always Pan and published material transparency statements. The brand does not appear in major safety databases with reported manufacturing defects, coating adhesion failures, or heavy metal contamination from this line. Independent testing by consumer publications has not flagged lead, cadmium, or other regulated contaminants in the ceramic coating. No formal product recalls related to safety hazards have been issued for the Always Pan.
How it compares in its category
Ceramic nonstick cookware sits between traditional Teflon-type coating nonstick (which carries PFAS exposure risk) and uncoated stainless steel (which requires more fat and offers no nonstick benefit). The Always Pan's hybrid design and established brand backing position it favorably against budget ceramic alternatives, which sometimes show faster coating wear or uneven heat distribution. Its marketing and material claims are consistent with industry-leading ceramic nonstick products from established manufacturers.
If you buy it
Hand wash rather than use dishwasher to prolong ceramic coating life; abrasive scrubbers and high heat cycling can accelerate surface wear over 3-5 years of regular use. Use medium heat or lower; ceramic nonstick performs well below stovetop maximum and avoids thermal stress. Avoid metal utensils; use silicone, wood, or nylon to prevent scratching. If the coating visibly chips, cracks, or peels, discontinue use and replace, as ceramic coating integrity is the primary barrier to direct metal contact.
