What Revlon Super Lustrous Ultra Lipstick is made of, ingredients and materials
Revlon Super Lustrous Ultra Lipstick is a wax-based formula combining carnauba or paraffin wax, mineral oils, emollients (glycerin, lanolin), and synthetic or natural pigments. The wax matrix is inherently stable and non-reactive at mouth temperature, and oils are standard food-grade or cosmetic-grade emollients. Because it's applied topically to lips and ingested only in trace amounts through normal wear, systemic exposure to individual ingredients is minimal compared to other cosmetics.
What’s concerning
Category baseline
The starting point for this type of product, before anything specific to this product is counted.
No PFAS disclosure
No public statement from the brand about PFAS in this product.
Fragrance allergens and undisclosed fragrance components
Revlon Super Lustrous contains fragrance without breaking down specific essential oils or synthetics on the label. Individuals with fragrance sensitivity or lips prone to contact dermatitis may react; the undisclosed nature of fragrance mixtures is a known limitation of cosmetic labeling.
Coating or wax degradation toxicity over time
If stored improperly or left beyond 3 years, lipstick wax can become rancid, oxidize, or accumulate bacterial growth, causing mild irritation or infection risk on lips. This is a use-behavior hazard rather than a manufacturing defect.
What’s reassuring
Base material not linked to PFAS
The main material recorded for this product is not one associated with PFAS.
Heavy metals
FDA-approved color additives (CI 15850, CI 77891, etc.) used in mass-market lipsticks are subject to purity limits for lead, cadmium, and arsenic. No published independent testing of Revlon Super Lustrous for metal content is available, but category-wide recalls for this hazard are rare.
Source, FDA ↗Talc contamination
Modern lipsticks rarely use talc as a primary ingredient; Revlon Super Lustrous does not list talc on its public ingredient deck. If talc is present as a trace contaminant in pigments or minerals, levels would be incidental and below typical topical exposure thresholds.
Formaldehyde / VOCs
Standard lipstick preservatives in this product category (e.g., methylisothiazolinone, phenoxyethanol) do not release formaldehyde. No recall or public complaint data suggests formaldehyde exposure from this product.

The brand's record and disclosure
Revlon does not publicly commit to PFAS-free labeling or provide detailed ingredient sourcing transparency beyond standard FDA compliance. The brand has faced no major lipstick-specific safety recalls in recent years, though Revlon as a company has managed general supply-chain and manufacturing audits. No independent testing of this specific line for heavy metals or allergens is publicly available; safety relies on assumed FDA color additive compliance and standard manufacturing controls.
How it compares in its category
Revlon Super Lustrous sits in the mass-market lipstick tier, offering broader color range and accessibility than indie or clinical brands at lower cost than prestige lines. Compositionally, it uses conventional synthetic and mineral pigments similar to competitors like Maybelline and L'Oreal; there is no evidence of reformulation toward hypoallergenic or certified-clean standards. Brands explicitly marketing heavy-metal testing or allergen-free formulations (e.g., Bite, RMS) sit in a different, more transparent category.
If you buy it
Store at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight, as wax-based formulas soften above 25-30C. Replace every 2-3 years or if the texture becomes grainy, separated, or develops off-odors, which indicate degradation or contamination. If you have a history of contact dermatitis or dye sensitivity, patch-test on lips before full application. Do not share applicators or lipstick tips to avoid bacterial cross-contamination.
