Apex Ez-2200
Lower concern category, though no PFAS transparency from brand; verify specifications before purchase.
Standard carbon and RO water filter without known PFAS-prone materials like Teflon-type coating membranes in typical designs. Brand provides no public PFAS disclosure or certification; contact manufacturer for membrane composition and third-party results.

What Apex Ez-2200 is made of, ingredients and materials
The Apex Ez-2200 uses activated carbon and standard filter media, the industry baseline for faucet-mounted or pitcher-style filtration. Activated carbon works by adsorption (trapping contaminants on its surface), not removal, so it requires regular replacement to remain effective. The filter housing is typically food-grade plastic; no lead solder or ceramic glazes are involved in faucet filters, eliminating those cookware-class risks. Performance degrades predictably as the carbon becomes saturated, but there are no known toxicity issues from the filter materials themselves under normal use.
What’s concerning
No PFAS disclosure
No public statement from the brand about PFAS in this product.
Bacterial growth in filter housing or trapped water
Like all passive carbon filters, the Ez-2200 can harbor bacteria if water sits in the housing between uses or the filter is not replaced on schedule. Regular replacement and avoiding stagnant water minimize this risk.
Activated carbon dust or particulates in filtered water
New or damaged filters can shed fine carbon particles into water. A brief initial flush or replacement of visibly degraded filters reduces this; it is not a health hazard in small amounts but affects water clarity.
Inadequate removal of target contaminants due to saturation or design
Carbon filters lose effectiveness as they saturate and do not remove all classes of contaminants (bacteria, viruses, nitrates, some pesticides). Without published removal rates or third-party testing for the Ez-2200, users cannot verify what is actually being filtered.
PFAS
Standard granular activated carbon does not reliably remove PFOA, PFOS, or other PFAS unless the filter is specifically engineered and labeled for PFAS reduction. No evidence suggests the Ez-2200 has such engineering; confirm with Apex before purchasing if PFAS is a concern.

Base material not linked to PFAS
The main material recorded for this product is not one associated with PFAS.
BPA & bisphenols
Food-grade plastics used in modern faucet filters are typically BPA-free and phthalate-free, and no specific contamination has been reported for Apex filters. Cold water contact further reduces any leaching risk.

The brand's record and disclosure
Apex has not issued public statements on PFAS removal or testing transparency for the Ez-2200. The product lacks independent third-party certification (NSF, WQA) in publicly available records, which would be a strong confidence signal for contaminant claims. Without manufacturer disclosure of filter specifications, flow rate, or contaminant removal rates, verification of marketing claims is difficult. No major safety recalls or contamination incidents linked to Apex filters have been established in public databases.
How it compares in its category
Faucet-mounted carbon filters are among the simplest and lowest-risk water filtration devices; they have no electronic components, no pressurized tanks, and minimal maintenance complexity. They remove chlorine taste/odor and some organic compounds reliably but are weaker at nitrates, fluoride, and some chemical contaminants than under-sink or reverse-osmosis systems. Apex Ez-2200 sits in the economy tier without third-party testing transparency, whereas competing brands (Brita, PUR, Pur) often publish NSF certifications or lab reports. For PFAS specifically, standard carbon filters are not designed to remove PFOA/PFOS effectively unless specifically treated or replaced frequently.
If you buy it
Replace the filter every 2-3 months or after 100 gallons (check manufacturer guidance, which should be on packaging or their website). Do not assume it removes PFAS, bacteria, viruses, or heavy metals unless you see a third-party certification label. Inspect the filter housing for cracks or discoloration; bacteria can grow in standing water if the filter is left unused for weeks. If your water source is known to contain PFAS or you are in a high-risk area (industrial, military, firefighting sites), request a lab test or choose a system with documented PFAS removal before purchase.
