What the evidence says about PFAS in air fryers
Air fryers with coated baskets are treated as cookware under at least two state PFAS bans. Maine’s environmental agency names air fryers among the electric cookware covered by its 2026 ban on intentionally added PFAS, while excluding PFAS in internal parts that never touch food, and Rhode Island applies its ban to electric cookware with PFAS on the food-contact surface. We found no independent lab test measuring PFAS in air fryer baskets, so what each manufacturer discloses is the best evidence available.
