Verdict · Buy with careRO system with good membrane safety profile, but brand's silence on filter/membrane PFAS composition and plastic housing leaching risk warrant cautious use and regular replacement.

RO systems use carbon and RO membranes, typically lower PFAS concern, but Aquasure provides no public material or PFAS disclosure. Contact the brand before purchase for membrane and filter specifics.

What Premier Series AS-PR75A 75 Osmosis System is made of, ingredients and materials

The AS-PR75A uses a reverse osmosis membrane (typically polyamide composite), activated carbon pre-filters, and plastic housing and tubing. The membrane itself is not a coating and does not degrade into microplastics under normal pressure operation. The activated carbon is inert as a filter medium. The plastic housing and poly tubing are the primary concern, polypropylene or similar plastics can leach oligomers and processing residues when exposed to warm water or repeated pressurization cycles over years.

⛏️

Plastic leaching from housing and tubing

Polypropylene and polyethylene components in the housing and distribution lines may release oligomers, monomers, or processing residues into stored or circulated water over time, especially if system operates at elevated temperature or remains pressurized for long periods. Rate depends on plastic grade, water chemistry, and storage conditions.

⚠️

Bacterial biofilm in filter cartridges and membrane

Activated carbon and RO membranes are organic substrates that become colonized by heterotrophic bacteria if cartridges are not replaced on schedule or if system sits unused for weeks. Biofilm does not render water unsafe if host membrane is intact, but indicates need for maintenance discipline.

🫧

Microplastics

Activated carbon pre-filters can shed fine particles if over-pressurized or physically damaged during installation. Polypropylene filter housings may degrade at edges or seals if subjected to pressure spikes. The RO membrane itself does not fragment under normal operation.

💨

VOC off-gassing from plastic housing

New polypropylene housings may emit volatile organic compounds (residual solvents, plasticizers) during initial water circulation. Smell or taste disturbance typically subsides after 1-2 weeks of flushing. This is not a long-term hazard but an initial quality issue.

Heavy metals

RO membranes reject most dissolved salts and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic) at 90-99 percent efficiency if properly maintained. No defect or design flaw specific to the AS-PR75A is on record. Performance depends on source water quality and correct installation.

How is this PFAS grade calculated?

The brand's record and disclosure

Aquasure publishes NSF certification claims on some models but does not publicly disclose composition of membranes or filter media regarding PFAS precursors or other contaminants. No major recalls or safety controversies are on record for this model. The brand's silence on membrane sourcing and filter chemistry is typical of the category but blocks independent verification of manufacturing standards or additives.

How it compares in its category

The 75 GPD capacity positions this as a mid-range under-sink or point-of-use system. Most competitors at this price share identical hazard profiles, polypropylene housings, unnamed membrane suppliers, and activated carbon media. Brands with third-party NSF or WQA certification (e.g., some models from Waterdrop, NU Aqua) publish slightly more detailed material data but do not categorically eliminate plastic leaching risk.

If you buy it

Replace pre-filters (carbon stage) every 6-12 months as directed; neglect accelerates bacterial biofilm growth in cartridges. Replace the RO membrane every 2-3 years or if output pressure rises sharply. Do not expose tubing to direct sunlight or heat above 110F, which accelerates plastic degradation. Store the system in a cool, dry space and drain lines after extended non-use to prevent stagnation and microbial colonization.
