What the evidence says about PFAS in dental floss

A 2019 Silent Spring Institute study found that women who flossed with Oral-B Glide tended to have higher levels of the PFAS PFHxS in their bodies, and when the researchers screened 18 flosses for fluorine, all three Glide products tested positive. Silent Spring reported in March 2026 that Oral-B says its updated Glide uses a micro-textured fiber and that none of its floss products are made with PFAS, which is the company’s own statement. Mamavation reported organic fluorine, a screening indicator of PFAS, in 13 of 39 flosses it had tested. A proposed class action alleging PFAS in Glide was dismissed in January 2026 for lack of standing, with time given to amend.
